New publication of the Kaohsiung Medical University Hospital of Taiwan

Nanolive is proud to announce a new publication in the Oxidative Medicine and Cellular Longevity journal from our customers in the Kaohsiung Medical University Hospital of Taiwan.

Lung cancer is at the top of the causes of cancer death in the world, with less than 30% of patients surviving five years after diagnose. 1 Besides, drug resistance is an emerging problem in chemotherapeutic treatments targeting lung cancer.1 This increases the need for further research on new effective drugs for lung cancer treatment.

Cheng and colleagues1 have studied the effects of the marine sponge sesterterpene (BA6) on lung cancer apoptosis. Their results show that the mechanism underlying BA6-induced apoptosis is the mitochondria-mediated apoptotic pathway. They conclude that BA6 is a promising lung cancer treatment, as it increases oxidative stress, leading to increased apoptosis in lung cancer cells.

The 3D Cell Explorer was used to detect apoptosis in lung cancer cells. Images were taken every 3 minutes for 3 hours in total. The resulting footage, showing two cells producing apoptotic bodies 30 minutes after drug addition, is included in their supplementary materials and shown below. Their full publication is available here!
